Last night for supper we had hot ham and cheese sandwiches.  They sure tasted good after doing the chores in the rain!  You don’t even have to do chores in the rain to enjoy them, they are good anyway.  Simple to make, too.  Just broil one of our cured ham steaks in your oven for about 12-15 minutes, turning once and broiling another 12-15 minutes for a total of 24-30 minutes, you will have to judge how quickly it is cooking.  While it is in the oven, heat your cast-iron skillet, (a low steady heat is best) slice up some cheddar cheese, and butter the bread for your sandwiches.  When the ham is done, cut it into thin slices and assemble your sandwiches.  Place one slice of bread, butter side to the skillet, add some ham and cheese, then top with the last piece of bread, butter side up.  Don’t let them burn!  Watch closely as all you need to do is brown the buttered bread and melt the cheese.
